Apparently, hedgehogs are just the rage right now. I momentarily thought about getting one as a pet since cats and dogs are out of the question. Not quite the petting type of pet, but they are really really cute.
you know, "hedgehog" was the first word i learned in hungarian. shortly after i had shaved my head bald in college, when it was just barely growing back in, my whole head was covered with little spikes that were accentuated when i had just gotten out of the shower. when my old roommate saw me on a spiky morning, she giddily said, "sundiszno!" and thus i was brought into the magyar fold.
i was unnaturally excited, then, when i saw a sundiszno scampering across the patio tiles at an outdoor restaurant area in debrecen several years later toward the end of my first intensive hungarian course.
it never occurred to me to have one as a pet, though. who are these hipster hedgehog owners? are they in with the ferret and potbelly pig crowds?

Where do you get a hedgehog? Do they have them at regular pet stores?
I think you could probably pet him, just not in both directions.
oh, so cute.
